Cami Plant Five Millionth Vehicle

INGERSOLL, Ont. (May 15, 2018) — Employees at the CAMI Auto assembly plant in Ingersoll Ontario are celebrating a massive milestone, with the production of the plant's five-millionth vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.

The factory is a huge source of local pride. It is one of the area's largest sources of employment, with the plant running on a three shift schedule.

CAMI Employees are being given the opportunity to purchase the milestone vehicle through a local Ingersoll Ontario dealership. The 5000000th vehicle is Cajun Red Equinox.

The assembly facility originally opened in 1989 as a joint venture with Suzuki Motor company but in 2011 the joint venture ended, and General Motors became the sole operator of the plant. $800-million dollars has been invested in the plant to tool it for the production of the Equinox, which is Chevy's entry into the important compact SUV market. The Equinox is available with a range of engine options including a turbo diesel which is a first for the segment.

A public open house is scheduled in August so the public can join in a 30th Anniversary celebration for the factory.
