GLASS PARTICLES USED TO MAKE NEW AUTO PAINT SPARKLE

Axalta Paint 1934 Ford Show Car - SST Car Show

A brilliant blue 1934 Ford Coupe, constructed by THE HOT ROD BARN made quite a splash at this year's SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas Nevada. SEMA is a trade show for auto industry professionals, and it attracts the world's best car builders. Making a splash here isn't easy, but in this case it's the paint that made the difference. Jason Reitz is the president of THE HOT ROD BARN. He says the blue paint used on this car is AXALTA's colour of the year. It's a brilliant blue with what looks like a metallic flake, but those flakes are actually small particles of glass. AXALTA calls it the Permacron Magic Sparkle Effect.

"We wanted to produce a real nice vibrant finish which especially in the sunlight we got today is just really brilliant. A lot of variation in the colour based upon the angle of the body and the different light that's hitting it," says Jason Reitz.

This street rod combines old school looks with modern technology. The brakes, suspension, and steering are all modern. The engine is an old school V-8 with fuel injection.

The car is owned by Mark Stuart, but it took a team of great mechanics, and auto body professionals at THE HOT ROD BARN in Joliet Illinois, to produce this world class show car.
