2018 Volkswagen Atlas to debut at LA Auto Show

Volkswagen believes it has a chance in the crossover segment with its new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. It has fierce competitors in the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot and Nissan Pathfinder but it has a few things in it's arsenal that Volkswagen hopes can separate it from the pack.

The Atlas has two engine choices with the base model having a 2.0-litre engine with a turbocharged I-4 giving it 238 horsepower. The other more competitive powertrain will have a 3.6-litre, with a VR6 engine giving the vehicle 280 horsepower. Both versions are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission although the VR6 is the only model that comes with 4Motion all-wheel drive.

When it comes to the interior the easiest way to describe it is massive. There is a ton of room inside the Atlas with its spacious third-row and its versatile second-row seats. Coming in at 198.3 inches long and 77.9 inches wide, the Atlas has the similar dimensions to it's competitor the Pathfinder and Explorer.

The Atlas also has a lot going for itself on the tech front starting with its infotainment that has Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink connectivity. The interface is touch screen but it also comes with button and knobs.

Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, forward collision prevention, post-collision braking, and a parking assistant all lead the way for technology in the 2018 Atlas with LED headlights coming standard.

The 2016 Los Angeles auto show is where the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas will make its debut before it will go to market in the Spring.
