Cruisers, Burnouts and Auction Action in the Classic Car Capital of Texas.

The fastest growing car show in Texas kicked off yesterday with a classic car cruise in and around the town of Nocona.

This little community of just 3000 residents has erupted with new life over the past 24 hours, with hundreds of classic cars rolling into town. This is the town's biggest festival of the year, and they call it Cruisin Nocona.

It's highlighted by a cruise which took place yesterday through the town and surrounding area where cruisers hit local tourist hot spots including a local winery. Then it was on to a parade and a well attended burnout competition.

Today the Vicari Auction begins with a selection of premium classic cars up for grabs. The auction continues again Saturday. There will also be a car show on the main street Saturday with over 300 registered vintage vehicles on display.

Nocona has claimed the title Classic Car Capital of Texas, and it seems to fit. This is the home of the Horton Automotive Museum, which opened after local businessman Pete Horton started collecting old cars....mainly Corvettes. The Horton automotive museum is now a cornerstone in the town and serves as a catalyst for tourism and what is now the town's biggest festival of the year.

See the related videos, featuring part of the burnout competition. There is an elevated monster pick up truck that was supposed to steal the show, but in the end it was Muscle Cars like the Ford Mustangs and Old School Big Block beaters that did the best job of smoking up the sunny skies in Nocona.
